"Salt of the Earth, Light of the World" was inaugurated in the summer of 2023. It portrays abolitionist Frederick Douglass and president Abraham Lincoln shaking hands, celebrating the second pivotal meeting between the two that occurred on Aug. 19, 1864. We celebrate these leaders who were "Salt of the Earth" and how their cooperation led to the Emancipation Proclamation in America.
This statue underlines our common humanity- and our place here as the "Salt of the Earth, Light of the World."
Thank you City of Rochester, NY for your generous support of one of our beloved heroes of humanity!
You can find the statue at the newly built North Star Commons on the river side of Exchange Blvd, on the corner of Fitzhugh Place in Rochester, NY.
